from United States on 07/27/2018 - I Wish ALL Patterns Were as Complete as This One Ok. We have five pages of beautifully detailed instructions. There is a chart for stitching the outside bottom of the nest, a chart for stitching the top of the nest, a separate chart for stitching the eggs shown in the nest, a chart for stitching the front bird's head of the scissor fob, a separate chart for the border of the front of the scissor fob, a chart for the back of the scissor fob, a diagram showing the layout of the fob with its cord and tassel and optional beads, two drawings illustrating the making of the tassel, written directions for making the tassel, directions for making the cord, directions for assembling the biscornest, color chart for the DMC floss, more directions of all kinds for everything. I'm sure I left something out because there is just SO much detail. The 8-1/2"x 11" high-quality full-color photo of the finished product is a work of art in itself. Information regarding the perfectly harmonized scissors to make a this project totally complete and gift-worthy is included. The only thing I'm a little shaky on is what size of linen I need to start with in the first place. It says that the 2 finished squares is 3-1/4" x 3-1/4". I'm not sure how much of a seam allowance to leave, prior to assembling it. It may become obvious as the project rolls along, but I'm not seeing it at the moment. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to make an un-embroidered test model out of muslin and get that down beforehand. Might save us a trip to the Heartbreak Hotel. The designer provided email address, mailing address, and phone number, which indicates to me that questions are welcomed. I could go on and on, even more than I have, but you will just have to see the pattern for yourself if I haven't already scared you away. I think this pattern is constructed in such a way to virtually ensure reasonable success for the stitcher. I am not a great stitcher, just ok. But, the project is so well-written that I think I may have a decent chance of success. And you get A LOT of instructions for the money, that's for sure.
from United States on 05/11/2018 - Beautiful AND Clever! Of COURSE a biscornu looks like a nest! How perfect for Crossed Wing Collection to take notice. This is my favorite biscornu I've seen and it is beautifully shaded. Also, the eggs are stitched with one thread over one thread while the rest of the nest is stitched with two threads over two threads. I've never done mixed sizes in a single piece like that before and the effect is gorgeous. The eggs really look real. Finally, pic doesn't really show that outside the shades-of-brown nest the outer edges of the top and entire bottom are stitched in lovely swirling shades of moss.
