This is an adapted reproduction of an antique English sampler, dated 1790. The sampler was embroidered by Maria Cooper in Hambledon.
The model was stitched over 2 threads on 40 Ct. Grey linen by Weeks Dye Works with Weeks Dye Works floss, Gentle Art Sampler threads and Classic Colorworks floss. Stitch Count: 361W x 405H. Finished size: 18" x 20 1/4".

This is a reproduction of an unfinished German sampler which bears typical characteristics of Saxon samplers. Uses cross stitch, back stitch, a few Algerian eyes, and Satin stitch.

Adapted from an English sampler dated 1783. Pattern is stitched on Petoskey Stone from Needle & Flax or Flannel Flower from Fox and Rabbit using Gloriana threads with DMC conversion. Stitch count is 288 x 223.
This is a very fine example of an early northern Dutch sampler called a letterndoek, or alphabet sampler. The illuminated letters are typical of northern Holland needleworks. Symbolic spot motifs include dogs, a stag, trees of life, and paired birds.
