This pattern is designed by Barbara Baatz Hillman. I have stitched both of her Old Rugged Cross designs and I enjoyed them both, even though I stitched the other one back in 1997. I did not use three strands of floss on this one as advised. I did so on the first one and hated it. This pattern is beautiful and colourful and the picture of the old rugged cross standing alone on the hillside cuts me to my heart, as do the lyrics. The colours are absolutely beautiful and the design is relatively easy to stitch....although trying to do French Knots on the Cashel Linen was a bit of a chore, as the knots kept on slipping through the holes in the fabric. I have never had that problem with French Knots before, but the Cashel Linen is quite loosely woven, so the knots kept on slipping through to the back of the work in certain places. I had to put my needle through the hole and yank it back to the front on more than one occasion. I hope all who stitch this work will enjoy it as much as I did. I wish I could add a photo of the finished work here as the picture on the site does not do it justice.
