While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 11/11/2019 - A few minor glitches but overall a nice little project I like the colors and the quality of the perforated paper. The design pattern is easy to follow and a nice compact size even though not too small. I haven't finished so I haven't done the beaded part yet. Negatives Some of the floss was frayed and unusable. Perhaps it is me, but I would have liked a clearer instruction on there being a "right" side of the perforated paper. I discovered I was on the "wrong" side after I had about a quarter of the work done. Since it is a full-coverage piece there is no real need for me to rip it out and start again. I think the only area where it will be very small bit noticeable will be in the beading squares but not enough to alter the look I hope!
from United States on 10/07/2018 - Dumbed down I love the Sticks cross stitch kits. I've done 8 so far and find them beautiful, richly textured, challenging, and very close to the original wooden Sticks plaques. But these new, latest designs are not nearly as complex and interesting as the older designs. They are too simple and lack the richness of the older kits. They are very disappointing.
