While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 07/12/2016 - Genoa Santa Redo I love the Mill Hill Cross Stitch Santa Collection. I make several of these Santas each year and send to family and friends. However, I make several changes to make mine unique. First I don't use any beads, but substitute other colors for the beaded rows. I often change the colors with each Santa. In my latest version of the Genoa Santa, I substituted dark greens for the browns and used light gray for the flag pole. I eliminated the rocks and foliage from around the feet and legs. I also outline my Santas with black stitching and stitch a plain piece of perforated paper to the back using a running stitch.
