While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 02/04/2024 - Very pretty and colorful! This is a beautiful goldfinch with the beads. However, a new button was substituted for the white one shown in the kit photograph. It is aqua and is pretty but does not show up as well because there is no contrast. It still turned out very pretty!

This spring I put in a new bird feeder to attract American Goldfinches and thought this would be a wonderful reminder for the winter. I would rate this kit as average complexity. Colors easy to sort and chart easy to read. Excellent results.

from United States on 11/23/2018 I have not started this yet, but will very soon as it is a Christmas gift. I just finished the monarch butterfly last week and I know this will be fun to do, also. I have done several of these and have not been disappointed yet.
