While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from on 12/28/2022 - 1st Mill Hill I did my first one and filled it with batting, for the antennas i used two threads and covered lightly in glue and bent them accordingly. Then added a decorative trim to finish it off.

from United States on 08/03/2015 - Deceptively Simple As a disclaimer, this was the first Mill Hill beaded kit I have bought/made, and now I want loads more! It shipped in a timely manner and fit perfectly in my mailbox. It came in a small zipped package, with beads grouped into two other zipped bags, which were easy to sort. There are definitely extra beads. Don't worry if you're the kind of person who loses a few you will not run out. The only downside was that the threads weren't sorted at all. It took me a moment to differentiate the oranges, but the directions list the amount of each color, so that helped. It's hard to tell on the picture listed here on the site, but there ARE beads in the orange section. I'd say it's not quite half beads, half actual stitches. As a lover of beads, I didn't mind, but I was like, "Oh! There's more! Yay!"The directions are clear, the chart is easy to understand, and the supplies given are top notch. Definitely worth the money.

The directions are easy to follow, the chart is clear and big enough to see easily, and if you have never worked one of these beaded kits you will enjoy yourself with this one.
