While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 04/05/2025 - sheep egg I have done several Halloween and Winter/Christmas mill hill kits and love them. Adding Easter/Spring to my collection. I like to do them in-between longer projects so that I get the satisfaction of finishing something quickly rather than in months or years.

from United States on 03/31/2016 - More Difficult Than Anticipated I ordered this item thinking it would be a quick project to include in my grandchild's Easter Basket. Quick it was not! The main problem with the kit was that the needle included in the kit was impossible to thread because the eye was too small. The instructions mentioned getting a needle threader which I did. However, the eye was still too small to fit two strands of thread and the wire of the threader through. I ended up having to buy a special needle for beading with an adjustable/hinged eye that you can open and put the thread through. This worked fine. I think that it would be better for 123 Stitch to include such a needle in this kit. That said, the finished product was beautiful!

To me it's almost easier than doing cross-stitch. I hope you make more of these all-beaded ornaments in the future--one with the three crosses would be really nice. Karen Sheets, Colorado Springs, CO
