While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 05/07/2016 - Nice project I enjoyed this project but did have to wait to finish until I ordered supplies. I have beading needles but they were too large for the petite beads. I had to order Mill Hill needles and a threader. I feel that for the pennies it costs Mill Hill to manufacture, they should be included in the kit. Possibly I'm doing something wrong, but I didn't find I could thread the needle using two strands the instructions called for when stitching petite beads. I used one strand and it worked out fine except I could not attach the beads at the same time I cross stitched the background.
