While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 05/17/2025 - More than I expected So, before the 10th March, I had never crossed a stitch in my life. But sometimes I like to try a new art form, and that is the day this cross stitch kit arrived in the mail. It is about 5†square in size. It came with excellent instructions; even though I’ve not done this before, I was able to follow it all and learn how to make all the stitches. I did not realize when I bought it that it also came with a thousand million minuscule tiny beads that also had to be stitched on. Handily, they supplied many more than were actually required, which is just as well since a lot of them are now down the side of the sofa cushions. Dang they’re small. And so is the needle; heck I spent more time trying to thread that darn bead needle than actually stitching. The normal needle was fine however. Anyway, I am very happy with the result, although I’m sure the original artist will recognize that it’s not entirely identical to the pattern… *cough* I love the colors and the final piece is quite dramatic.
from United States on 09/30/2019 - Great kit Really love this pattern. The kit includes everything you need to complete it including embroidery and beading needles. So happy the floss is DMC because of quality and availability of more is needed when I make errors.
