Model stitched over 2 threads on 30 Ct. Straw linen with either Gentle Art Sampler threads (cotton) or Needlepoint Inc Silk and Gentle Art's Simply Wool. Stitch Count: 345W x 110H.
Note from the designer: "Important Notes Before starting Your Sampler...
All Cotton Option: We used one strand of gentle Arts Cotton throughout. The number (2) after colors above means that two skeins were used. We used 10-yard skeins of cotton. (If you choose two strands for over-two stitching, make sure you have adequate supplies.) Note that due to silk & wool option, two symbols were used for the white stitches. Both the # symbol and the - symbol are Oatmeal in the cotton option. On the chart in the top alphabet, the dark eyelet stitches are Schoolhouse Red. The light eyelet stitches are Oatmeal. If you do not like eyelets, use cross stitch or Smyrna cross. The four-sided alphabet is Schoolhouse Red. The four-sided stitches in the "William Moore" section are also Schoolhouse Red. The four-sided stitches in the "Lucy V. Moore" section are Oatmeal. If you choose DMC floss, please note that colors are approximate.
Silk & Wool option: We used one strand of NPI silk and one strand of Gentle Arts Simply Wool throughout. (If you choose two strands for over-two stitching, make sure you have adequate supplies.) Because the horse on the antique appeared to be neither wool nor silk, it is stitched in one strand of GA Onyx. Beginning from the top, all borders are NPI 986. The dark eyelet stitches are NPI 575 (red). The light eyelet stitches are NPI 882. The four-sided stitches in the "William Moore" section are NPI 575. The four-sided stitches in the "Lucy V. Moore" section are NPI 882. The over-two motifs (other than the horse) are Gentle Arts Simply Wool. The yellow in the over-one basket and rooster is NPI 472. The dark brown in the rooster is NPI 587 and the light brown in the rooster is NPI 986. The over-one basket under the flag also uses NPI 472 (yellow).
Options: Don't like specialty stitches? Change them to cross stitch. Don't like over one? There's room to rearrange the motifs and stitch over-two. We attempted to be true to Lucy's work as possible. Have fun! Make this sampler your own. - Maegan & Vickie."

I am delighted to share this antique with you. It is from 1840 of Dutch origin. The sampler had lots of great motifs and I loved the top rows of crowns and shields, but the composition did not please me, it had large blank spots on it. I saw this piece as more enjoyable in the vertical format as... Read more
