Item: SCTL-040
Type: Cross Stitch Patterns
Designer: Scarlet Letter

Note from the designer - "This sampler could possibly have been made in Connecticut but the surname is quite common throughout New England. Abigail was ten years old when she made her sampler. The original was stitched on unbleached homespun linen using silk threads, and the reproduction very closely approximates the size of the original at 11-1/2? square on 35 count linen. It is wonderfully quirky and naive, yet still very ambitious and finely executed. Stitches used are cross, counted satin, back (outline), stem filling and eyelet. While it appears to be stitched freehand, the sampler has actually beem charted for counted thread embroidery. The flower and leaf motifs around the border are outlined in back stitch, then filled in with either stem filling or counted satin stitches. It is recommended for intermediate level needle workers."
