100% cotton. Background color is slightly pinker than DMC 3033, but not as dark as DMC 543. This is an HD fabric. HD means Hand Dyed mottled effect. HD fabrics have been surface treated with digital textile printing using pigment inks to give a hand dyed effect. More consistent in color and pattern than hand dyed. One side is in color; the reverse side is white. Colorfast and lightfast in all but the most vibrant colors, such as orange. May be hand washed in cool water as recommended for needlework.

it's a lot darker than the photo.

I expected this to look like other hand-dyed fabrics. This is not. One side appears to have been painted on only one side, like some other fabrics. It has the color on one side, the reverse is white. Obviously not dyed, but hand-painted, like Crossed Wing Collection's fabrics. This is nowhere near those fabulous. It looks as if a kindergartener took a brush and plopped paint on blobs. It looks awful and no doubt have my giftees laughing at me for the in appropriateness of this fabric. Only success will be that customer service here is marvelous. They offered an exchange. I got fabric that was better and got a credit for the difference.
