While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 09/24/2019 - Simply Beautiful This was my first Mill Hill kit. I enjoyed having everything floss, paper, beads etc. altogether and not having to purchase everything separately. Its definitely a great value. I had never stitched on paper before and found it a bit fiddly. Towards the end, I had to pay particular attention so as not to rip the paper. The paper did rip towards the edges which wasnt a big deal because the whole thing is cut out but it was a distraction having to worry about fragile paper. Additionally, I was unable to thread the beading needle provided in the kit and so had to use my own needle. The instructions were clear and thorough. The kit took me approximately twelve hours to stitch, spread out over about two weeks. In spite of minor annoyances mentioned, Id highly recommend this kit to others and am looking forward to stitching the rest of the nine pieces in the Nativity set. Simply beautiful!
