While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I stitched the Mary, Joseph and Jesus and was going to stop with those three and then I enjoyed it so much I HAD to order Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar. These beaded kits bring me so much joy to make and look at afterwards. I was initially concerned that they were on paper and not Aida cloth but it's such a beautiful paper and so easy to hold in your hand while stitching - it stays perfect looking throughout. I adore the beading portion. I was keeping them until I decided how to finish them. Thank you to the reviewer that said she put them on chipboard! I will do that as well and then add felt to the back to make a strong ornament. I'm betting I could have my Cricut machine perfectly cut the chipboard and the felt out for me if I upload the finished cutout project. SO EXCITED to finish them now. Will wait and do all 6 at once.

from United States on 07/24/2015 - Beautiful Results. I made the entire Nativity series two years ago for my son and his wife for their new home. I started a set for myself this year and have done the shepherds and angel, the three wise men, and am now working on Virgin Mary. It is so addicting, sometimes I'm up at 3 or 4 in the morning working on them. I usually can't wait until I get to the beading part, then it's finished really quickly. I mount them on cut out chipboard with an easel-like picture stand on the back so they stand on a table.
