While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 01/31/2018 - The Real Santa I have done 2 of this particular one and just love him--to me he looks what you envision Santa to be. My granddaughter is getting married and I am making this one plus several more ornaments for her shower gift. I have also done some of the other Santas for gifts and the person I give them to is always pleased. This one takes a bit longer, but so worth the time.
from United States on 05/21/2017 - This is my 11th I stitch one of these beautiful Santas every year for my daughter. Because of the beading, they take a little longer than a regular project, it worth it. The beads are what attracted me to them. I also thought the beard would be difficult but the directions are clear and give the length to cut the floss, so no guessing. A hint, a sometimes tack the beard in place with little stitches along the edge or use a touch of white glue. That way Santas beard to perfect for years to come.
