While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 05/28/2016 - Excellent Kits I have been making these Christmas Santas for quite awhile now and find all the kits easy to follow and well provisioned with threads and beads. However, since I finish them off as traditional stuffed ornaments and give them away as gifts, I do not use the background paper provided but stitch them on 14 Aida cloth which obviously iseasy to work with and last longer than the paper provided and also fill in the background with a needlepoint theme - usually herringbonestitching in a neutral color.I recommend all of their kits although this is the first and probably only one I will review unless I come across one that is extremely different from the others I have completed.
