While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I love working this all beaded ornament. It works up quickly and easily.

Mill Hill is always refreshing itself and coming up with new things. This Snowman is part of a group of 6 all-beaded ornaments, the first all-beaded I have seen. I bought the Snowman because my local shop did not have it. I have done 2 of the 6 and I will say that only white thread comes in the kit which gives a "white sheen" to the ornament. I pulled colors of DMC from my stash to match each of the beads and that worked out much better, the colors are more vibrant and that "white sheen" is not seen. I also recommend using size 15 white beads instead of the size 11s in the kit because they are over-sized compared to other size 11s in the kits. Not all size 11 beads are created equal as all beader know.
