While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

There are many, many beads in this kit, well-explained on the pattern, but because of where I was placing my finished design, I decided not to use the beads but only used the cross-stitching and back-stitching which turned out just as cute! Also, instead of using the holed plastic sheet to stitch on, I used 16 ivory Aida which looked lovely. Would definitely recommend this!

from United States on 11/04/2015 - Very cute but.... Been cross stitching for many years - always loved Mill Hill kits BUT the perforated paper provided for Tom Turkey was too small. I found center and started working on it and realized that the piece provided was at least 1-2 stitches too short to accommodate the final outline of beads.
