While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

This is so much fun to do. I made this 2 years ago for my sister as well as the sister kit, Olive Oil. I have done all the little winter series houses, the wine glasses, the margarita and the martini. They keep you busy for hours on end. The only thing I wish the Mill Hill people would do is sort the thread or at least tell you the number of strands of each color they have included in the kit. Luckily they use DMC so you can more easily sort the colors when they're only a hint of a color difference. But this is definitely a 5 star item.
