Mill Hill Christmas ornament designed by Jim Shore featuring a gnome dressed as Santa holding holly. The kit includes 14 Ct. Antique Brown perforated paper, beads, needles, floss, chart and instructions. Finished size: 2.5" x 5"
While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

Although the design of this kit was delightful, I found it very problematic trying to identify the colours of the threads. They were provided in a hank of threads and many colours were very similar. I had to resort to a DMC colour chart to figure them out. Also the pattern was black and white and difficult to follow. A colour chart would have been better.
